CWA kills the Morning Show

a revealing email
Below is an email from CWA Local 9415 sent to Arlene Engelhardt, ED, of the Pacifica network. It's dated November 10, 2010. In this email we catch a glimpse of how the power clique at KPFA are working through the CWA to micromanage the station and render it dysfunctional.

FROM: KPFA CWA LOCAL 9415
TO: ARLENE ENGELHARDT, PACIFICA EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
RE: KPFA MORNING SHOW
DATE 11/10/10

Dear Ms. Engelhardt:

The KPFA members of CWA Local 9415 note that you publicly have stated that you plan to transfer existing station staff "known to the listeners" to fill the jobs of the union members you laid off from the KPFA Morning Show in contravention of our union contract. We hereby put you on notice that the union membership is in solidarity with Aimee Allison, Brian Edwards-Tiekert, and Laura Prives. Our members will refuse any requests or directives to assume any of the production, hosting or other tasks previously performed by our three union brothers and sisters. That would, in our view, constitute participation and complicity in your illegal and fiscally irresponsible actions, which have undercut the viability of KPFA. We urge you not to make any further moves to threaten KPFA's viability.
